Grand Designs Live Melbourne 2013

As we get ready to celebrate the grand opening of the sculpture exhibition at Yering Station  our friends at Rolling Stone Landscapes are re-building their grand display at this years Grand Designs Live in Melbourne. After a very successful show in Sydney last weekend we are very much looking forward to hanging with the crew in our own hometown.  And looking forward to catching another glimpse of design guru Mr Kevin McCloud!

Quite some time ago Dean from Rolling Stone Landscapes asked if we would like to participate in the show and design some customized pieces to feature in his display, and we jumped at the chance.

Dean Herald and his team at Rolling Stone Landscapes will be showcasing a 150 square meter garden environment designed around people coming together to catch up and relax. Using organic circular shapes Dean has created different areas within the garden to retreat to and use throughout the different seasonal changes.

Natural stone from Eco Outdoor, along with timber and steel elements will be used to help create a warm atmosphere which will be complemented with an extensive plant selection of shrubs, ground covers and mature trees.

The central area and dining space within the garden features a custom designed circular canopy with laser cut roof detail and a feature pendant light all made by us at Lump Sculpture Studio.

The finely lace cut pattern that sheathes the canopy and pendant light keep with lump studio’s signature style of organic repetition and lightness. The edges of the canopy finish with a natural unevenness and frayed appearance, carefully designed by Chris to appear as organic and threadlike. The earthy patina of the corten steel complements the organic nature of the shape and the free form stonewall at the base of the canopy, which also doubles as an informal place to sit.

The large scale of both pavilion and pendant has a very grand and ethereal appearance and will be constructed in both Melbourne and Sydney shows independently.

During show days, the garden will set the stage for information sessions where Dean will discuss the design and interesting topics of the industry with suppliers and associates. Show goers will also be encouraged to ask questions and open discussions at these sessions to help provide greater insight into different aspects of the show and garden design.

You can see Rolling Stone Landscapes grand design and have a chat to Dean and Chris in Melbourne from the 25th – 27th Oct.
