The project really speaks for itself. A lovely home with a modern renovation and a stunning modern landscape designed for living in luxury and entertaining all year round.
Steve designed into his landscape a canopy using the screens from the Lump Ink Blot range. Several of the Ink Blot screens were incorporated into the structure using steel channels and exposed beams, giving it a slight industrial twist.
The ink Blot canopy filters through dappled light from the afternoon sun, as well as casting beautiful delicate shadows on the walls and paving. You can even catch glimpses of the Ink Blot reflection bouncing off the pool.

The home is a Californian Bungalow. The client wanted a modern, slick rear yard with the works. Kids play room, alfresco, office, pool, new rear face of the home, shade option, lawn for the kids etc. etc.
Sam collie of “Esjay Landscapes” constructed the garden. Steve Trappet of “Build 180” built the alfresco, house façade and the stunning arbor. Phil Kilworth of “Serenity pools” built the pool and spa and yours truly (Steve Taylor) conducted the orchestra of trades.
The ink blot canopy was designed to create dappled shade to the western facing rear façade of the home and consists of steel I and C section beams with KD hardwood in-fills featuring a 10mm shadow line. We have also cantilevered the northwest corner to ensure we didn’t clutter the alfresco space and as a result the arbor seems to defy gravity.
The Ink Blot screens provide the dappled and light and interesting shadows that travel across the rear terrace throughout the day. We have Ink Blot screens in our office and the client loved the pattern and wanted the same for his own place.
For me the arbor is my favorite feature of the project, we thank the client for giving us the brief to have some fun and push the boundaries. We thank the construction teams who made it happen and we thank Lump for their funky designs and custom screen fabrication service that ensured we were able to create such a stand out feature with millimeter precision finishes.
