It takes a Village

Toorak Village Sculpture Exhibition 2014

This year Lump Sculpture Studio is not only very fortunate to be displaying two sculptures in this year’s Toorak Village Sculpture Exhibition, but we are also very proudly sponsoring the Exhibition by presenting the big prize.

Last year Tim was awarded the City of Stonnington and Bank of Melbourne Award for the outdoor sculpture entry “Clasp”. The whole crew from Lump were totally chuffed at the win because everyone had played a role in bringing the sculpture to life.

At Lump we know all too well the hard work that goes into getting sculpture out into the public. What's more, we understand the effort it takes to run a small business, so the Toorak Sculpture Exhibition seemed a great fit to inject the winning funds from the “Clasp” back into the exhibition in support of the Artists and the Traders.

The Toorak Village Sculpture Exhibition is an annual event that takes place in the heart of Toorak Village. Here, the arts and business come together to form a unique experience. During the month of May and the first two weeks of June, Toorak Village Traders open their shop windows, arcades and footpaths to display contemporary sculptural works.

Directed by Tony Fialides and curated by Malcolm Thomson, Tracey Cammock and the Toorak Village Traders Association will officially open the Exhibition on the 2nd of May at the Tok H Centre. You can catch Tims entry the “Ring” at 412 Toorak Road and Chris’s entry “Asterisk” at Level 1 in the Tok H Centre.

With council regulations being so tight with any proposed urban project it is no mean feat to put on such a show. And at Lump we could not be happier to be involved in an exhibition that gets sculpture out of the gallery and literally out onto the street because we know that to successfully do that, it takes a village.

The Winner of the $5000 Lump Sculpture Studio Award  for the 13th Toorak Village Sculpture Exhibition is Owen Hammond for his piece "Untitled" made from wood.  You can see the winning sculpture at the Tok H Centre at C Werner & Co Optometrists until June 15th 2014.

The "Ring" by Timothea and the Lump crew can be seen in the exhibition at 412 Toorak Rd and "Asterisk" by Chris can be seen at L1 in the Tok H Centre.
